ST CATHERINE'S: Pressing need to work with parents

AS A parent of two children at St Catherine's School, Littlehampton, I have taken the difficult decision to move my children to another school, as I felt they were not being supported by the local authority.

It beggars belief that the county council was going to reinstate the leader of the school when Ofsted inspectors had criticised leadership and management at St Catherine's, calling it "inadequate" for the past three years prior to the inspection.

We still do not know what is happening in the longer-term and many parents are worried that the lack of consultation by the county council so far, will continue and there will be no real dialogue with parents.

The interim heads and teachers and the governing body are doing an excellent job in difficult circumstances and should be congratulated.

Sadly, the same cannot be said of the local authority, which is remote, and is not engaging with parents or working with them.

Our children get only one chance of a decent education and they quite simply deserve better.

In the county council's own words "Every Child Matters"...

I hope the council will now work with parents to find a way forward.
