Stop the madness

ON September 24, 2008, in an article by your reporter Amanda Barrell, the chairman of East Preston Parish Council Len Barnett talked about the extension to the village hall, the great proportion of which is to be used for parish offices, with a fully-equipped council chamber.

He explained that grants would be applied for, which would cover 100 per cent of the costs.

It is now going to cost well over 800,000, which even I can work out is a grand 800,000 per cent increase!

Also, at the above meeting, parish councillor Celeste Amoo stated that the new children's playground would be 10 per cent less than the existing one.

Usable space in the proposed new playground is a 33 per cent reduction.

It is also now in direct flight of the cricket balls. Ouch!

We all know that the village hall needs more storage, but what a cost, for a few square feet.

Who's paying? We, the villagers, for the next 25 years.
