The day was part of the school’s Ambassadors Programme, which is designed to give young students a real ‘try before you buy’ experience with a one day placement at their dream employment, following research that indicated 80% of people in the UK regret their career choices.

Both Salome and Liam enjoyed a fantastic day learning about the world of culinary employment with a schedule full of kitchen workshops and delicious tasting sessions. The pair were also able to ask chef Lewis about his experience as successful chef and manager of the renowned 5 star South Lodge Hotel, which boasts chefs such as Masterchef winner, Steven Edwards.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved and satisfied the pupils’ hunger to learn more about becoming chefs once they are older and complete their education at Tanbridge House.

Student Liam Harris commented:“I had a great day visiting South Lodge Hotel and working alongside Lewis in the kitchen for the day. For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be a chef, and so getting to see how a restaurant kitchen works was such a cool opportunity. I can’t wait to carry on gaining experience and hope to become a chef myself once I’m older!”

Jules White, Head Teacher at Tanbridge House School, added: “Our students had a superb time learning the rules of running a kitchen alongside Lewis at the South Lodge Hotel.

“We created the Ambassadors Programme to help students make vital choices about their future careers and it appears to have cemented their passion for becoming successful chefs once completing education.
