Young Start-up Talent pits young entrepreneurs from the Gatwick Diamond area against each other in a ‘Dragons Den’ style competition of ideas, presentation skills and wit. The overall winners receive £50,000 worth of finance, laptops and professional support and advice from business experts to get their ideas off the ground.

Lucy Hargreaves from the college’s Progression Directorate, was delighted: “I was really pleased to see a good attendance and as always it was great to witness our students engaged in furthering their employability skills and experience. Huge thanks to our charismatic speakers Lorraine and Tino. They have really inspired our students to think like entrepreneurs!”

The humorous and well-presented introduction to the competition included workshops and one to one advice and guidance about how to get started. Lorraine also spoke to the students about current winners ‘42 Juice’, who managed to set up an exclusive Juice bar business in Brighton and Hove.

Ian McAlister, who runs the Progression Directorate at Collyer’s said: “It was good to see Lorraine and Tino helping our young entrepreneurs get ahead in the world. Their enthusiasm was infectious and I’m hoping that our students enter the Young Start-up Talent competition and follow in the footsteps of previous Collyer’s winners ‘Recyclabook’, who continue to go from strength to strength.”

Assistant Principal Melanie Russell was delighted: “A fantastic session that fits in so well with our Progression Directorate’s ‘Planning Your Future’ initiative! Massive thanks to Lucy, Lorraine and Tino for making this possible.”
