The aim of the visits were to increase awareness of ABC within the community and enabled the students to learn about animals in the care of the sanctuary. This included why they are there, their background and any special needs they have to make sure they are fully supported during their time at the Sanctuary.

Cheryl Cook who organised the visits said “All the Seaford College students worked extremely hard, mucking out stables, cleaning the goat area, grooming some of the ponies and donkeys to name but a few tasks that they carried out.

“They all worked very hard, were enthusiastic, positive and helpful and were keen to learn and be part of the team of usual volunteers at the Sanctuary on a Thursday”.

Alexandra Bastedo founder the of sanctuary said “It is hoped that this visit will be the first of many for Seaford College and become part of an ongoing relationship between the two”.

The students were so inspired by their visit that are hoping to do some follow up fundraising for the sanctuary during the course of the next school year.

The group of Special Task Force Club Members and Volunteers also enjoyed their time at the sanctuary. The club based in West Chiltington provides opportunities for young people with disabilities to participate in a wide range of social and leisure activities within the community.

Jay Forsyth from the organisation said “The visit to the Sanctuary was very much enjoyed by all. Some who attended were a little shy and hesitant at first to communicate with the animals but soon gained confidence and felt at ease as animals and Sanctuary volunteers provided a very warm welcome. Many photographs were taken by Club members during the visit, forming a part of a recent photography project which is due to be completed in the Autumn.’
