Support for foxes

YET again the much-maligned fox is in for persecution (Gazette story, “Foxes forcing us to fortress”, August 4).

I find it interesting that such an article comes within weeks of the (illegal) fox hunting season starting again.

This article is so one-sided.

Why didn’t a balanced view appear in this paper?

Why hasn’t any reporter bothered to ask the West Sussex Wildlife Protection Group to add a few tips on discouraging foxes in the first place entering gardens, if owners don’t want to see such beautiful creatures visiting their gardens?

I find it interesting, too, that a few pages further on, the article on the wildlife page had the heading “Love or loathe them, show a bit of tolerance”.

Yes, good heading, but the article goes out of the way not to mention foxes.

The article suggests putting out food for hedgehogs and yet the article about deterring foxes is not feeding them, how ironic.

So feeding hedgehogs is fine, but not foxes.

How can you avoid foxes, then?

Foxes will enjoy food given freely, whether it’s for hedgehogs or birds.

Instead of loathing them, enjoy their presence, they can be entertaining to watch and can happily live in harmony with humans.

Let them live their own lives free from persecution.
