Take my chancewith legal system

READING about the hammer-carrying youth arrested by police (Bexhill Observer, March 4) I have to ask: do we have in the UK the most inane and ineffectual police and judicial system at work in the known world?

The police officer concerned claimed ‘robust action’ was taken, when in fact the accused was reportedly let off with a caution, oh, and lost his hammer, too.

Thank goodness for that. We wouldn’t have wanted someonce carrying a hammer in public to get off lightly, now would we?

In the meantime, we read of a young woman hit in the face with a brick and the offender got off with a few hundred pounds fine, yet for not filling in our eagerly awaited 2011 Census form we will be fined £1,000.

On the evidence of previous acts of law-breaking I think I will take my chances and ditch the census form.
