Last weekend, Tesco ran its third Neighbourhood Food Collection in a bid to collect 10 million meals for those in need by the end of the year.

Customers at Tesco Pulborough were invited to donate food in store as the retailer geared up to hold the biggest ever food collection in the UK. Thanks to the generosity of our customers, customers donated more than £4,050 worth of food in just three days. Tesco was joined by Foodbanks charity the Trussell Trust and food redistribution charity FareShare for the collection.

Customers were given a specially-selected shopping list when they entered the store and were asked to pick up an item of food such as long-life milk, cereal, tinned foods and tea and coffee before donating it at the end of their shop.

The food will then be distributed to the Horsham branch of the Trussell Trust before being given to people in times of crisis.

Richard Moore, store manager at Tesco Pulborough, said: “Our customers were incredibly generous when we held our last food collection in the summer, so we are delighted that we collected an even bigger total this time around.

“In the run-up to Christmas we want to do our bit to feed those in need in our local community.”

Tesco will be topping up total donations by a further 30 per cent.
