This Sussex

And from the salt marsh to the Sussex Weald

And that garden fair beyond,

Where the lark and dunnock sing their song,

Where the Marsh frog skips each pond

And the seaweed green and that russet tinged

Which upon the beach do lie

Where the sunny Downs span this blessed plot

And the cliffs do rise so high

And where ‘twixt the wooded fields there lies

An ancient church of old

Where the shepherd wanders by each day

Where the celandines unfold.

Where from windblown hills to the sea below

Where the faerie dust doth fly

And this land so fair which did Heaven bless

Is where dream days do lie
