Time for Rother to get real

RDC appear to be proud of the fact that the proposed 1.94 per cent rise will be the first increase in six years.

Would it not have been less painful to have a 0.3 per cent increase each year?

The reduction in grants from the government has meant that savings of several millions of pounds needed to be made, and have been.

This only goes to show how wasteful RDC was with other people’s money previously.

RDC also have to save £3m by 2020.

Let me help.

Currently RDC pay over £500,000 of public money to the De La Warr Pavilion each year. The Arts Council contribute a similar amount.

The DLWP is not a front line service, neither does it benefit the tax payers of Rother.

It should stand on its own two feet.

All the time a vast amount of public money is poured into it each year there is no incentive for the DLWP to improve its’ commercial income and become solvent.

RDC must stop wasting council tax payers’ money on this edifice to days gone by, and get into the present.

More than £2m of the £3m needed to be saved by 2020 can be found simply by stopping the wasteful financial support to the DLWP.

Tax payers do not want to hear about this front line service or that essential service which is at risk, whilst all the time money that could be used is being thrown at Bexhill town centre and the De La Warr Pavilion.

It really is time for Rother District Council to get real and use their diminishing resources to maintain services for the tax payers of the whole district.
