Time to move on?

APROPOS your report concerning replacement plastic windows in a conservation area, am I right that the officers responsible arrived at their office today in a pony and trap, after a doctor’s appointment where they were treated with leeches?

Furthermore, was King George V still on the throne and had gas lamps arrived yet?

I suggest that conservation practised this way is predicated on unreal values, which set out to hold this country in a time warp and create Theme Park UK.

The pretty villages, attractive towns and countryside that we all enjoy are the product of time and diversity, not closed-minded, airy-fairy do-gooders.

On the one hand, the Government wants us to improve insulation to save energy whilst, on the other, its paid servants are incurring unnecessary expense for citizens by insisting on less efficient, high maintenance timber windows.

Surely, enlightened thinking should replace such ill-considered nonsense since, as the laws of physics tell us, nothing can be conserved forever.

Gentlemen, move on.
