Tolerating Reynard

I AM sure it is in the best interests of Steve Walsh (Gazette letters, August 18) to paint as grim a picture as possible of the urban fox – after all, he is a pest controller and, when confronted with an animal so full of ‘orrible sounding bugs in your garden, “who ya gonna call?”

Foxbusters, of course!

They will then quietly “remove the fox quickly with minimal disruption to people, which is a gentle enough euphamism for killing it without you having to witness it!

In truth, all wild and many domestic animals – including garden birds and turtles – tote around a whole bundle of nasties and, of course, we humans are among the worst carriers. Just think what we have spread far and wide on this planet, and I guess in the future, will carry far beyond our galaxy.

Who is poor old ET gonna call?

Forget Reynard, the human bite alone can carry a host of other nasties – hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes simplex virus (HSV), syphilis, tuberculosis, actinomycosis and tetanus (not a lot of people know that!).

No, Mr Walsh, I don’t find the fox a cuddly animal at all, but as long as they are prepared to put up with the mess I and our kind create around them, I am happy to tolerate their presence in my garden.
