Top musicians come to Storrington

On November 2nd St Mary’s Church Concert Committee gave music lovers in Storrington a rare treat, with a concert by The Frazer Quintet.

Its members have all had distinguished careers, with Christopher Wellington, in particular, having once been regarded , as the finest viola player in England. His fellow player was Ruth McGibbon, with Rita French and Martin Cannings as violinists and Graham Elliott playing the cello.

The church welcomed an audience of over sixty to hear two rarely performed pieces; the quintet in A Minor by Dvorak and the string quintet in G Minor by Mozart.

The adagio from the latter work being of particular beauty.

The quality of the playing deservedly received loud and prolonged

applause.

The concert helped to raise funds for The Shipley Arts Festival concert on May31st 2014, this being the third year that St Mary’s Church has been a venue for this superb annual event.

In addition to raising these necessary funds, the retiring collection produced a sum of £52.00 for Combat Stress.
