Trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace

Farlington’s Prep 4 visited Fishbourne Roman Palace as part of their Romans topic. The girls were able to appreciate the size and grandeur of a Roman palace and get a feeling of what it would have been like to have been a guest at such a splendid house.

They wandered through the beautiful gardens and learned about the different plants that the Romans brought to Britain.

The mosaics were amazing and the girls enjoyed looking at the different designs and colours.

One of the highlights of the day was the workshop where the girls had the opportunity to write their name using Roman letters on a wax slate, design their own mosaic, use a spindle to make yarn and make a bridge.

Some of the girls were dressed up in costumes and it was really interesting to learn about the different types of clothing worn by the rich and poor. The girls were surprised at the length of a toga and were fascinated to see how it was worn.

Lorraine Burge, Prep 4 teacher, said, “It was an enjoyable day and the girls learned so much from their hands-on experiences. They came away excited to learn more about their topic back in school.”
