Unrecognisable

Are there two Darlington Courts at the same address? There must be, as I don’t recognise the one in your article (Gazette, September 5).

My mother, Kathleen, has been a resident of Darlington Court for a year-and-a-half and her health and wellbeing have increased noticeably since being there.

She is happier now than she has been for many years, she has put on weight and smiles and laughs readily. She is always clean and dressed in her own clothes.

She needs a lot of attention and help and it is patiently and happily given. I was particularly annoyed at the reference to the lack of dignity and privacy, as it is in place. Staff never attend to mum without first talking to her and asking her permission and closing the door and curtains to ensure no one at all can see or hear anything they shouldn’t.

I have found the staff, all staff including careers, cleaners, maintenance men, activities ladies, receptionists and cooks, to be very professional, cheerful and caring, and willing to chat for a few moments when they pass by.

The home is bright and clean and sweet smelling and full of flowers, and mum has some of her own possessions and photographs in her light, airy en-suite room, which makes it more homely, and more to the point, makes her happy. I found your article misleading and upsetting. I only want the best for my mum and she has it at Darlington Court and I would not want her anywhere else.
