Victory for community spirit in Ford

AFTER hearing the welcome news that the government has not chosen Ford as a site to progress its Eco-Town initiative, I would like to say a big well done to all the people involved in the fight against this.

I'd especially like to thank all the organisers of the CAFE group, whom have all dedicated so much time, effort and hard work into opposing this proposal, and also our MPs Nick Gibb and Nick Herbert for their constant support, as well as Arun District Council, for setting up the select committee process.

If one good thing has come out of this, it's the community spirit '“ the residents of Ford, Yapton and Climping have all come together and fought to save their villages and beautiful countryside.

In this day and age where people hardly know their neighbours, it has shown that people really do come together when it matters, and the villages are now closer for it.

Hopefully, now the government will realise the nonsense which was the Eco-Town process and will leave all planning issues to the elected local planning authority.
