Volunteers work hard to raise awareness of Samaritans

Almost 200 packs have been delivered by hand or post and now the volunteers are preparing for a busy week being out and about in Horsham outreaching to the local community.

The Week is running from 29th September to 5th October and the aim is to raise awareness of exactly what the Samaritans service is.

“Many people think we are there only for the suicidal,” says Sue Jago, Director of the local branch, “but we want people to know that we are there for anyone who is having a bad time with problems piling up and the feeling that they have no one to turn to.

“Our confidential, non-judgemental listening service is there for them at all times.”

There will be many opportunities for local people to find out more about Samaritans during the week as volunteers will be at their information point in Swan Walk for two hours every day as well as at the Thursday and Saturday Horsham Markets. Music lovers will be able to enjoy a concert being given by Horsham Folk Club on Sunday 29th September to launch the week. Anyone interested in helping Samaritans either as a listening volunteer or as a support volunteer should go along to Horsham Market information stall on Saturday 5th October when there will be information specifically about volunteering.
