Walk not drive?
I AM advised on good authority that, starting from cold, most engine wear and tear occurs during the first few miles of a car’s journey.
For this reason, for a journey of under five miles, I cycle.
As Michael Rixon (Gazette letters, September 29) has a mere two miles to travel to his place of work, may I respectfully suggest he makes his own contribution to the relief of traffic congestion (about which he so bitterly complains) by following my example?
