Waste of money

Over the past few months, some of the roads in Littlehampton have been resurfaced and all road markings removed.

I therefore thought this would be a good time for West Sussex County Council to do a bit of ‘housekeeping’ and establish which disabled bays were still needed and which were not.

I contacted the council, on several occasions, to say that most of the disabled bays in Gloucester Place were not needed, so there was no need to remark them, thus saving the council money. I was told that to action this could take up to ten days!

How, in this day and age, does it take ten days for one department to instruct another? So I contacted my local councillor, who said he would do his best to sort this out.

But lo and behold, I arrived home yesterday afternoon to find that all the disabled bays had been reinstated (even bigger than before).

So you have to ask how many other bays were reinstated in the area that didn’t need to be, at the expense of the council tax- payer, and in how many other ways is the council wasting our money?

In these days of austerity, surely the council should be looking to save money, not blatantly wasting it.
