We already have those facilities

I certainly agree with Carole Woodland’s views regarding the saving of St. Andrew’s Church from the demolition squad.

But I am surprised by her suggestion that it would make ‘an ideal community hub, a tourist information point, motoring or model train museum or a local cinema’. As all of those facilities and many more, except the last, are currently available under one roof just five minutes walk away across Egerton Park, namely Bexhill Museum.

The TIP is situated in the entrance area while the other attractions may be found in the Technology & Motor Racing Heritage Gallery on the ground floor.

There the visitor will learn of our town’s role as the celebrated birth place of British Motor racing in 1902 and see Bexhill built vehicles representing different eras and technology, the replica 1902 Serpollet steam car, the 1958 Elva sports racing car, the 1993 world record holder, the Volta and other vehicles connected with our town.

Also available for visitors to operate is the Izzard family model railway layout. And, just a reminder for model rail buffs, on April 8 and 9, there will be eleven additional layouts on display throughout the museum.

For visitors who are not into cars or model railways we also have the Sargent and Costume Galleries, the former telling the story of Bexhill over 125,000,000 years, the latter with collections dating from the 17th century.
