We have no say

CAN someone please explain to me - and I'm sure many others - how Bexhill council tax payers support the De La Warr Pavilion to the tune of £500,000 a year, yet have no say in how the building is used?

The Pavilion is beautiful, but so under-used. It is the obvious place for a tourist information office, and for all manner of shows and exhibitions. It should be used to enhance the lives of everyone in Bexhill, and not just the elitist few.

Local amateur dramatic groups should be encouraged to use the theatre regularly, not just once a year when they have to pay £3,000 for the privilege of using it (this £3,000 being subsidised by Rother District Council giving yet more money to the DLWP).

Why can’t their plays be included in the DLWP programme of events? And why is so little publicity given to anything which is held at the DLWP?

Indeed, why can’t the De La Warr Pavilion support the people of Bexhill who live here all year and not just the visitors who come here for a day and may then never come again?
