We will remember them

A key focus for our whole school Learning Journey, The Memory Box, is to look at life 100 years ago.

Commemorating the start of the First World War we used the focus of last week to develop a series of reflection stations to help mark Remembrance Day.

Each family was invited to bring a poppy early on Tuesday to place on our school sea of poppies in the hall; dedicating it to someone special. In this way the poppies held memories for us all as we held a morning worship at which each class introduced its reflection station and laid a token of respect. We concluded this by each holding a red rib-bon which we tied around the Peace Garden.

The afternoon saw the whole school join a reflection journey around each class to focus upon different themes such as Thank you for special people; making difficult choices; and working towards Peace and Reconciliation.

A lasting memory of our Remembrance tribute is the work of art that has been placed under the cross on the outside of the school. ‘Field of Poppies’ has been created by Years 5 and 6 with artist Maureen Burgess, and was unveiled today as to mark 100 years since World War 1.
