Well done – at last we will have a stage

I WAS delighted to read that, at last, Littlehampton is going to have a performance stage (Gazette, August 16).

Let’s hope that they build it the right size. I am a member of the Littlehampton Concert Band, of which there are about 50 members. It would be ludicrous if they were to build it to stage only 16 people. Not only would it be a waste of money, it would not fit the purpose.

It’s a brilliant idea, so let’s hope the town council makes the right decision and does not make the mistake that was made when the swimming pool and the Windmill Theatre were built too small, so that it would not even be able to stage Littlehampton’s own local band and any other larger local musical or drama groups that wish to use it.

I also wanted to say how much we enjoyed the Littlehampton Queen’s diamond jubilee concert on Saturday.

It was absolutely brilliant – The Tribute Band and the TLA Steel Band were fantastic. There was music for everyone and, of course, the fireworks and the weather completed a perfect evening!

Well done, Littlehampton!

Editor’s note: our story does make it clear that The Stage by the Sea could be extended to accommodate up to 50/60 performers.
