What a great tonic

I AM writing to congratulate Rosemary Hagedorn, Pauline Carder and all the trustees of the Arundel Museum on the grant of £888,000 for the new heritage centre from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

They have shown great perseverance in raising the funds from the HLF with the support of large sections of the Arundel population; I have supported the project from the start and in a small way helped behind the scenes to secure from Arun District Council £300,000 initial funding for the centre and an additional £85,000 for new toilets.

The centre will be an educational resource, a tourist hub and a great driver for economic activity in the town. Combined with the Arundel Visitor Strategy group under the excellent chairmanship of James Stewart, it provides great opportunities to propel Arundel to a higher visibility in the south east tourist economy.

Paul Dendle,

Arun councillor for Arundel ward, Burpham
