Where does all our council tax go?

Would someone please tell me exactly what Eastbourne Borough Council does with the £50 plus a week that we all pay in council tax and why the council is allowed to hold us all to ransom?

The council no longer has any offices in Eastbourne, well at least not that the general public can enter.

It is virtually impossible to actually speak to anyone in the council on the phone. They have made it impossible for us to report anything or complain.

Eastbourne’s pavements are in an appalling and dangerous state. Eastbourne’s roads are full of potholes.

There are no seagull / fox proof bins, hence our streets and parks are often horrendously strewn with all kinds of rubbish.

My own house has shared boundaries with a council owned property and we share boundary walls. The six foot boundary brick wall, separating our back yards, was built as a single skin which, I am told, is dangerous.

The top four levels of the bricks have been increasingly frost shattered over the past years and the wall is in an appalling state .

I have persistently contacted the council about this. In two years I have had no response whatsoever.

Immediately behind my back gate, which leads on to the woods, there were four very tall trees. In the past year, two of the four trees have crashed down, now leaving two highly precarious trees which lean towards my property and which have several, low hanging dead branches over the well-used lower public pathway in the woods. Again, over the past two years, I have been in constant contact with the council about this, sending numerous photos. In two years I have had no response whatsoever.

Again I ask – why should the council be allowed to hold us to ransom with our unacceptably high levels of council tax and exactly what do they do with our money?

One further question – what exactly does our local MP do for us, the people of Eastbourne?
