‘Whole vaccination process in Horsham went like clockwork’

My wife and I are patients at Courtyard Surgery and we were invited to receive a Covid-19 vaccination, organised by Horsham Collaborative PCN at Christs Hospital Bluecoat Sports Hall.

Our appointment was booked for 9am on Friday, January 22.

When we arrived, the directional signs and the marshalling were very good and we were directed to the appropriate car parking area.

We were advised to remain in the car until someone came to inform us that they were ready to receive us in the hall. It meant that we could keep warm on what was a chilly morning.

We didn’t leave our car until we were told that they were ready for us and we were checked off as we entered.

We were directed into the hall and shown where to sit. The chairs were immaculately set out in correctly spaced rows and columns.

Someone came round to record where we were sitting. Once everyone was seated, a doctor explained what the vaccine could and couldn’t do and reminded us of medical conditions, which would make it unwise to have the vaccine.

He also made it clear that the vaccination was not compulsory and gave anyone with any reservations the chance to leave. He invited people, who had any questions, to raise their hand so that he could go to them and answer their questions individually.

We stayed in our chairs, whilst a nurse came round and gave us the vaccination and then we were told that we could return to our cars but wait for 20 minutes just to be sure that there were no immediate adverse side effects.

We were told about the importance of reporting any possible side effects and referred to the information leaflet, which had been left on our seats. As we left, the chairs were being sterilized ready for the next patients.

The whole vaccination process went like clockwork and one has to congratulate all the people, who input so much effort and showed how well we can organise events of this nature both in Horsham and in this country.
