Whose bright idea was this?

The utter devastation of all the gorse ripped out of the ground by excavators was beyond belief.

When we read the notices put up by Hastings Borough Council they said the gorse had been stripped off so people could get better views of the sea and they could plant heather.

Obviously the people that planned this appalling act know nothing about the local environment or the habitat of flora and fauna in the area.

When the machines started ripping up the ground didn’t anybody see the dozens of rabbit warrens now filled in with their occupants still inside? By destroying this gorse the bird and insect population has now been destroyed.

When gorse is in flower it attracts bees and other insects which the birds feed on.

We also noticed the Rosebay Willow Herb and other wild flowers had also been destroyed.

We wonder which bright spark came up with the idea of planting heathers,this place is not the Scottish glens it’s Fairlight ,this area is a gorse growing area it has been for hundreds of years the name Firehills is the clue as it was always catching fire when I was growing up. The largest of these occurred in the early 1950s when a massive fire burnt out of control for days.

I expect when all this heather grows up perhaps grouse can be introduced so we can see the idiots that came up with idiotic plan hire it out to shooting parties.

I hope we have a dry winter so all of the exposed soil won’t get washed over the cliffs.
