Why do we pay more for bin collection in Hastings?

I have noticed, to my dismay, that Hastings Borough Council charges £70 a year for the brown bin/garden waste collection service. However, Rother District Council only charges £40 a year!

I wonder how Hastings Borough Council justify charging nearly double the price of other neighbouring councils? Especially considering that most of the towns under Rother are arguably more affluent areas. If I lived in a neighbouring town (Bexhill/Little Common for example) I would pay nearly half the price.

This seems completely extortionate to me and I feel the council should be challenged strongly on this issue.

During recent events many people have been using the time to get their gardens in order and I would suggest that HBC would earn far more revenue from reducing the cost to match other areas, as many more people, myself included, would be able to justify the cost.

It would also reduce the current queuing time at the rubbish and recycling tips. Taking some of the pressures off both the operatives and users alike.
