Will Jeremy Hunt be next effigy?

The problem with our NHS is that it is grossly underfunded.

We only have to compare the amount we spend per person on health compared to other leading nations in the west to realise it has been and still is grossly underfunded.

A number of our hospitals are already in deficit because they were not given a feasible budget by the Conservative government.

The other thing we need to be quite clear about is that the term junior doctor applies to all doctors below the top level of consultant.

Our health and the health of our NHS depend on the health of our doctors and nurses.

As we all know the NHS is having problems recruiting and retaining staff as GPs and in our hospitals.

As a consequence of this many in post have to take up the slack and work extra hours without pay for them and the cumulative pressures on doctors in our health service are now reaching a peak.

The most important question to ask a doctor making a judgement about your health or about to operate on you, is how long have you been on duty?

They are the most important resource in the NHS and how can dear Jeremy Hunt talk about taking an NHS already in crisis to seven days without extra doctors?

If Hunt really cares about the NHS, it is surprising he does not focus on discovering the root cause of difficulties of staff recruitment and retention and be finding extra funding.

But, instead of this, he decides to alter doctors’ contracts and without any real consultation it would appear. Why?

He says they have refused to engage with him, but is it more that they are unwilling to give in to his unreasonable demands?

Can we blame the doctors if they have no faith in Hunt?

Consultants we are told are unable to give the training hours they should be giving to junior doctors, because there is not enough time and they fully support the actions of the junior doctors.

So, why is Hunt doing this?

He tells us more people are dying at weekends, but it doesn’t take a genius to work out that anyone coming in then is coming in as an emergency whereas during the week they are mainly planned and managed admissions.

Are the Conservatives deliberately causing a crisis in our National Health Service, so they can privatise it?

Is Hunt’s aim to cause a mass exodus into private medicine or abroad?

Is Hunt carrying the straw which will break the back of our NHS? Should we be afraid, very afraid?

Will effigies of Jeremy Hunt feature large in the Lewes bonfire parade this year?
