Worthing strangers come to the rescue

Last month, just before Christmas, I was shopping at Lidl in Worthing.

I had a new bank account with no overdraft facility. I didn’t realise I was overdrawn and my card was declined. I was panicky and was talking to the checkout assistant (very nice and understanding by the way).

Then, this lady, a complete stranger, pushed me gently and put her card in the card reader, paid for my shopping and left.

I was so surprised I could hardly thank her. ( I have now sorted my account and given the same amount of money she paid to a local charity in Worthing).

Then tonight, I was shopping at Iceland – Goring Road. Two men were in front of me at the checkout, the first one was in his late 40s maybe, the second, looked very old.

The first one paid for his shopping and asked the checkout lady to include the old gentleman’s shopping as well.

I assumed they were father and son. But then, the younger gentleman took his shopping and left the shop. They older gentleman hadn’t realised and went to pay, but the checkout lady told him it had already been paid by the gentleman in front of him, obviously a stranger again who randomly and without a fuss helped a stranger.

I was very touch both time and wanted to share these two very positive moments. There are wonderful people in Worthing.
