Writing in support

I WRITE again in support of James Baird, as I feel that the Baird family is being put down by the people who benefit from his farm shop, with all of its fresh produce.

From what I have read in the Gazette, the people of Climping are acting like a bunch of NIMBYs – why should the working class not be allowed to share the Climping area by being allowed to camp or caravan there and be able to enjoy the countryside and beach? I feel it would bring a large amount of revenue to the Arun district in more ways than one.

Reading on in the Gazette (August 2), I think I can see the reason why Mr Baird failed in his quest, it was because he is not a multi-national like Morrisons, who just happen to give Arun £175,000 to gain planning permission and Sainsbury’s who I feel sure will get they own way, and then again Asda who already have got what they wanted, all taking trade away from a town centre which is already falling apart.

And yet a local trader who has proved himself in this area without being propped up by council money is not allowed to bring trade into the area by opening a camp site.

I think Arun’s so-called Littlehampton regeneration sub-committee is wasting its time throwing more money at the town centre, as with all the above happening, it has no chance of survival.
