Young photographers’ work snapped up by Born Free Foundation

Based in Horsham, the charity works to improve the lives of some of the world’s most endangered and vulnerable species, and rescue individual animals from cruelty and mistreatment. Its popular animal adoptions are a great way for supporters to make a regular donation to support the animal of their choice, in return for an adoption pack which includes information sheets, a certificate and the all-important cuddly toy.

Students from the BTEC Creative Media Production L2 joined in the Bron Free Foundation project, the latest in a long succession of professional projects, organised by Photography Lecturer, Don Allen, which offer young people exposure to industry standard working practices, in conjunction with the local business community in Sussex.

Don said: “Opportunities like this give the students’ experience and expertise a considerable boost. The evidence backs this up – students who get involved in these projects show more employable skills by the end of the course and this is reflected in their grades.”

Student Kieran Donovan said: “Working on this project was fun and challenging but I liked it most because it was real.”

Born Free’s Trading Co-ordinator, Emma Perkins, who oversees merchandise explains: “It was a tricky brief for the students, as we wanted them to demonstrate creative ideas within what is essentially quite a straightforward photography project.”

“We have recently redesigned some of our adoption packs, so we wanted to get images to use on our website and social media to show off the new look! We’re very proud of the variety of adoptions we have to offer, which range from elephants and lions to hyenas and turtles and so we were keen to get the new photographs produced in time for Christmas, as they make a great, unusual gift for animal lovers young and old!”
