I was very happy to see that the local council have repainted the double yellow lines and parking bays in anticipation for the new parking charges to be brought in force soon. Hopefully it will end Bexhill being the ‘wild west’ of parking opportunists.

However, I was dismayed that they haven’t repainted the zebra crossings in Bexhill. On Sea Road by the train station we have a very worn out crossing that is on a very dangerous busy part of the road.

There are 100s of children that go to the St Richard’s Catholic school that usually use this crossing (in non-pandemic times). That crossing is also the lifeline to the new businesses and a new pub that are starting up on the east side of Sea Road.

Living on Sea Road as I do, I have seen lots of people run over by cars on this crossing and also ‘near misses’ in my time. If Sea Road is anything to go by, the other crossings in Bexhill should be looked at too.

The council should balance the same importance with human safety as it does with parking meter revenue.
