Look after children

THE RIGHT of children to enjoy natural and more open play in Hotham Park by removing the fences around their play area appears to conflict with the supposed right of dog-owners to allow their pets to roam freely in the park and deposit their faeces wherever they choose.

Two years ago the Children’s Society published A Good Childhood, based on the biggest inquiry into the condition of childhood ever conducted in the UK, which described the excessive individualism of today’s society as a threat to the happiness and well-being of children.

As this landmark report concludes: “Children are a sacred trust.
