RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: Cllr John Lamb reports: On Thursday the Town Council approved pursuing a partnership with Wave Leisure over the running of the new Malling Community Centre. If a contract is agreed, the council will retain ownership and keep up the fabric. Wave Leisure, which runs the gym and pool at Mountfield Road as well as village halls and leisure centres in East Sussex, would manage the Centre. They have promised to recruit staff locally, to run classes and sessions aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles, particularly for older people, as well as continuing to hire the Centre to local groups. He feels that the MTRA needs to be involved in shaping the new facility and making sure it meets the needs of people who live here.

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN: Cllr Lamb also says: ‘You’ll have seen that 92 percent of those who voted in the referendum, voted yes. There was a turnout of 25 percent, way above that in bigger Sussex towns. The result will also give us a lever in resisting development of Malling’s green spaces, since they are not included in the plan.
