WEATHER OR NOT: Having worked outdoors for most of my working life, I cannot remember a February so gloriously hot. We were in Kent over the weekend and had lunch in the garden both days and had to put on sun cream. I had never used sun cream until last year and only now realise how extremely lucky I have been not to have contracted skin cancer. What risks we took when we were young.

CHRIST CHURCH: Christ Church Tots are back with a session for pre-school children and their carers today, Friday, from 9.30am to 1130am. It is only £1 per family. There is also a World Day of Prayer service at St. Anne’s Church, Lewes at 11am. It is entitled Come - Everything is Ready and has been written by the Christian women of Slovenia .This Sunday at 10.30am our morning service will be led by Gwyneth Watkinson. The meeting of the Think Tank on February 20 heard a fascinating presentation by Canon Dr Peter Sills on Leadership from a Christian Perspective. This focused on the life and work of St Benedict 1500 years ago but its contemporary relevance was remarkably clear. Discussion and questions that followed explored the meanings of words like leadership, management, responsibility, fairness, balance, collaboration and community. The difficulties in introducing such concepts into 21st century society were understood, but the meeting was not left without hope that slow transformations could be realised. The Lent season will soon be upon us with Ash Wednesday on March 6. There are two Lent study groups in the local area. At Christ Church, we have an Ecumenical study group on five Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 9pm beginning March 14 until April 11, based on St Mark’s Gospel. At St Anne’s there will be a study course on Tuesday mornings beginning at 10.30am with Holy Communion and discussion groups, followed by a simple soup lunch. All are welcome.

LEWES NEVILLE WI: There was a change of speaker at Lewes Neville WI’s February meeting at St Mary’s Church Hall on Highdown Road. Sadly Trevor Weekes from the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service was not well and therefore unable to come and speak to us so Tim Danson from The Green Man’s Garden kindly stepped in at the last moment and talked to us about his work designing, building and maintaining gardens which was informative and interesting. After refreshments we had a game called Where am I in Lewes where we got into groups of four or five. One person in each group went up to Judith who gave them a very specific place in Lewes which they then had to go back to their group and the members of the group had to guess where this was. There were fourteen places and the team to guess them all first was the winner. It was great fun.

Our next meeting is on March 20 when the speaker will be Paul Green on Murders and Misdemeanours. The competition will be Flower of the Month.
