Nice to see you, but shamed by an eyesore

FIRST of all, it's great to know that the Birdman competition is coming to Worthing.

This will bring thousands of visitors to the town.

Some, if not all of them, will take a stroll eastwards to Splash Point, past the now derelict old boating lake.

This is extremely scruffy and is a dumping ground for rubbish.

The fence has fallen down in places, and could be dangerous to pedestrians.

It would not cost too much to tidy up this pool, perhaps turn it into a paddling pool for the children because the existing one is packed on sunny days.

Apparently, 15,000 will be found to help fund the Birdman competition and 70,000 for an art structure at Splash Point.

How many workmen would it take to transform the boating lake into something pleasing to the eye?

Not 15,000-worth, I am sure.

One of my friends pays nearly 800-a-year for her beach hut in this area and constantly has to see this ugly sight.

Oh, and by the way, the seafront toilets are in need of a spruce up.

Some don't flush or lock, and more rubbish bins are needed and they should be emptied more often.

The thousands of extra visitors will need them.

I know this area is up for redevelopment in the future but I am talking about a tempory revamp.

There have been letters in the Herald before about this issue, but nothing gets done.

Do we want our visitors to see this eyesore?
