Pamphlet not well received

I RECEIVED a pamphlet through my letterbox entitled, On Your Marks. This is a "gift" from my local church.

I note this material is endorsed by the Town Hall, the mayor of Worthing.

I do not feel the mayor should be proselytising his faith through my letterbox on behalf of the churches and the Town Hall. This should be his private personal belief.

There are people of other faiths and none living in Worthing which does not appear to have been taken into consideration or appreciated by the Worthing churches and the mayor.

Is the Town Hall, and possibly the council, no longer a secular organisation but run or influenced by religion?

It is not surprising we have received this missive with Easter looming and a large number of church buildings closed over the last few years.

The churches are looking for business.

They have already taken over three of our high schools - in Shoreham, Lancing and Littlehampton.

I do not wish to share the faith of the mayor and the churches as I am an atheist.

I would not dream of going around every household in Worthing and proselytising my atheism by way of pamphlet through letterboxes.

However, what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

I try to lead an ethical life without superstition - that is what humanism is all about.
