Plea to protect path

THE EMPEROR Way foot and cycle path, which passes the Roman Palace in Fishbourne, could be closed forever by Christmas this year. The impact of the closure of this path will have a huge effect on our village: its closure will sever a main artery to the heart of Fishbourne.

The pupils of Fishbourne CE School, Bishop Luffa and Chichester College will no longer have a safe pedestrian/cycle access to and from Chichester.

Cyclists from Fishbourne, Bosham and further afield use this route daily for work.

If this precious path is closed the only immediate alternative will be to walk/cycle along the A259 which is most dangerous, especially for young children and cyclists.

Any re-routed path, if indeed there is to be one at all, will take many months to complete and will involve dark and narrow routes alongside the railway line, equally dangerous and very expensive to build.
