POOL PLANS: Will it be West Park?

HAVING seen that Teville Gate has been ruled out as a site for the new swimming pool, despite its prime location close to the station, bus routes and the town centre, does this mean that the council will be taking more of West Park for selective public use?

Legend has it that this park was given to "the people of Worthing" but more than half of it stands unused for a great deal of time except by athletes training evenings and weekends.

What little is left of the rest of the park, where people can exercise dogs and take their children to play, is shrinking rapidly.

There is a huge area fenced and allocated to hammer throwing, which they tried to keep locked until locals protested some years ago.

Worthing has a long tradition of shrinking its parks for development, so for goodness sake let's hope they see sense and locate the new pool somewhere else.

Locating it on the existing site seems the most sensible and would leave something of West Park for EVERYONE to enjoy.
