Pretty good thinking - in Italy

I overcame considerable temptation to buy "for the holiday".

I'm packing for my first visit to Italy. I overcame considerable temptation to buy "for the holiday" by reminding myself how much more interesting it will be to find things on the visit.

Apparently, the market for natural and organic personal care in Italy is one of the biggest in Europe.

Naturalmente is a line of innovative products created in 2004 by Artec, an Italian company. By choice, Artec use pure essential oils and fragrances derived from the botanical plants, flowers, roots, seeds, oils, fruit, spices, and resins. Naturalmente ingredients are sourced from their countries of origin, then cultivated and harvested using organic, biodynamic and spontaneous agricultural methods.

Bioart also produce Essere, an eco-friendly range that ensures biodegradability in cosmetics. My eyes will be peeled.

British high streets carry plenty of miniature products to fly with, but I prefer to decant my regular favourites.

Superdrug sells an excellent range of small bottles. I also found three flip-top minis and a little screwtop container with handy labelling stickers and a cute little funnel in a bag for £1 at Primark. They are great for short trips - but using plastic and flying are far from sustainable lifestyle choices. So I don't do either very often.

PLA (polyactic acid) is becoming popular because corn-based plastic is a more environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional petroleum-based plastics. PLA is a biodegradable replacement. For more information, visit: www.cdrbeautywellnessnature.com.

I also decanted rose geranium water through used-up essential oil bottles to shake into a refreshing spray. This is a random process because you cannot determine how the flavours will blend until you try. If it isn't right at first, add more of your preferred oils until it harmonises. I love having a unique fragrance to freshen up with - and its good to spritz around when everyone overheats.

I grab all my sample sachets and rinse out old make-up brushes so that I have a selection of clean ones to enjoy while i am away.

Making a capsule toiletries bag is never easy, particularly with sun care in the mix.

I'm sure to smile a lot so will carry my trusty Aveda Lip Saver and Nourish-mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze in fire poppy, a dynamic shiny summery orange somewhere between the colour of Aperol and Campari.

Salute!
