Residents' views must be heard

Further to the advert in the paper last week, we note that the planning application regarding the proposed changes to the old Observer Building is live on the Council's website and that comments must be submitted by February 23, 2016.

Personally, I have been delighted to see the new lease of life given to the building over the last months.

But it is easy for me to be enthusiastic when I live on the West Hill and am not directly affected.

What is most important in my view is that the residents directly affected by the works will have their voices heard.

For example, I strongly support their demands for a proper traffic management plan to be put in place, with a pedestrian crossing and traffic calming measures further up Cambridge Road.

It is worrying to hear rumours about Brighton University’s intentions for their Hastings campus. With this is mind, councillors must be very clear that they do not allow a change of use for student accommodation that permits different forms of hostel accommodation if, for whatever reason, the students don’t come in numbers.
