NURSING HOMES: Over the years, I’ve had to deal with finding nursing and care homes for my parents and Mike and deal with all the problems it brings. It is very, very stressful. When you are well past retirement age, all you want is a peaceful life and security. But everything to do with dealing with the best care you can find for loved ones involves so much and dealing with finances is a real problem, since most care homes charge anything from £700 to £1,000 a person per week and nursing homes are even more expensive. The procedure for dealing with all this is not easy and I really don’t know how people without the know-how cope with it all. You get mountains of paperwork, have to make many phone calls and can be frightened to death by hard up authorities into selling your property. He pointed out no-one has to sell their home to pay their residential care fees if they are determined not to do so.
