ROTARY ROUND-UP: Clubs around country mark Rotary Day

This week, Gerald Illsley, from the Rotary Club of Worthing Steyne, gives an update on the latest and future goings-on.

Last week we hosted the annual dinner for the three Rotary Clubs in Worthing.

We were pleased to welcome guests and members from the Rotary Club of West Worthing.

The Rotary Club of Worthing could not join us because they were running their own event to raise money for local charities. We wished them well.

Club president Terry Herbert and Sue Virgo, the president of West Worthing Rotary Club, welcomed our guest Amanda O’Reilly, the general manager an programmer for Worthing Theatres.

In an informal event, Amanda told us about the improvements which have been made to the town’s cinema sites, Assembly Hall and theatres to stage current film releases and a varied, exciting programme of live shows and drama for customers from Worthing and beyond.

And now the Worthing Museum is part of the family.

Amanda also spoke about inviting active support for the family with ideas about sponsors and friends.

We look forward to seeing Amanda again and hearing more about progress.

On Tuesday Rotary Clubs around the UK marked Rotary Day and celebrated its 111th birthday.

It is perhaps impossible to identify how many lives have been changed through international campaigns to provide local bush schools, install fresh water facilities, or provide food and services in communities affected by earthquakes and flooding, or organisations who we have helped locally, nationally or further afield in that time.

We have some ideas about marking this milestone with an up-to-date website and using other social media, taking part in this year’s crocus planting campaign, perhaps in partnership with a local school or youth group, and inviting people to the gift of Rotary.
