Someone needs to do something about the disgraceful amount of litter along the A27

Anyone travelling along the A27 from Beddingham to Lewes will be aware of the disgraceful amount of plastic waste and litter along the verges.

If we farmers allowed our farms and fields to be in such a state, we would not only incur the wrath of the general public but very soon we would have every authority imaginable wagging fingers at us and ordering us to clear it up.

This blight is a shame upon us all but most of all the authorities who are responsible for our roads and their verges. There would appear to be no will to deal with this awful pollution which seems to increase year on year.

It is high time that the departments who are responsible took a more proactive approach and set about a clear up without the usual lame excuses of cost and risk.

I believe there is a very workable solution to this and it is for the Highways departments to communicate directly with the courts who could then direct all ‘volunteers’ who are to undertake community service to press on with this clear-up.
