Spanning a few decades, the book takes us to Greece and London - and both places are marvellously portrayed. The heat of an Athenian summer is brilliantly evoked, leaving you gasping for an ice-cold beer. The beaches, the tavernas, the dodgy backstreets are all there. Along with an ever-growing sense of danger.

Eighteen-year-old Emma is a not-very-innocent bystander in a shatteringly-violent event. The echoes of that day stay with her for the rest of her life.

Kate seems to have it all: a gorgeous family, a swanky lifestyle, and a perfect marriage. But she, too, is caught up in the past.

When the two meet up again, somebody is out for revenge. Somebody who has been waiting for 30 years. Nobody is going to get away unscathed. Are they?

There will be no spoilers here. But I can assure you that you will want to finish the book lickety-spit to find out.

Crouch has been crowned the "queen of the domestic noir". You can absolutely see why in her stunning new book. It is also an essay in trust.

Do you really know who you can trust with your life? Or who to believe? This had me guessing right till the end. Only to be proved wrong! A fantastic holiday read.
