TIM DREW: Task force in high demand during past year

The West Downs Neighbourhood Watch Task Force has experienced no lack of demand for its services this year, and has been in attendance at some major events in the past month.

The first of these was the public meeting organised by the A27 Working Group on Friday, October 28, at which some 800 people were present and we provided stewarding services.

Although feelings evidently ran high, all passed without incident and the same could be said in regard to the Littlehampton Bonfire Society event the following evening, where we also provided stewarding services.

This was a tricky job given the size of some of the floats, the narrow streets and the numbers attending, which included many very young children.

We wish to record our grateful thanks to the society for making the task force one of the beneficiaries of this event, at which some 20 members were present.

Last Sunday, the task force provided road closure services at Remembrance Day parades in Southwick, Shoreham and Lancing – the latter marking the final appearance for the team of Peter Backus, a former team leader of the then West Downs Neighbourhood Search Team and member of the Task Force Committee.

Peter had been a member of the team for 16 years and rendered sterling service to the last.

Worthing NHW’s last cycle marking for this year will take place at the Get Home Safely Event on Saturday (November 19) in South Street Square from 11am to 4pm.

Cycle marking is now also available every Wednesday between 10am and 1pm through our partner Durrington Community Cycle Project, at Pond Lane Recreation Ground, Durrington.

The Central Ward Neighbourhood Panel will meet on Thursday, November 24, at the Ardington Hotel, Steyne Gardens.
