Unruly dogs mar grandkids' outing

ON THURSDAY, September 8, I took my young grandchildren to Hotham Park for what I thought would be a lovely, fun outing.

How wrong can you be?

The whole experience was totally spoilt by irresponsible dog owners allowing their dogs to run loose all over the park.

At one point a black labrador came chasing out of the bushes straight at my two-year-old granddaughter, nearly knocking her over and totally frightening her.

The owner did nothing about this and allowed the dog to continue to run free.

This was not the only dog running all over the place.

We left and went home with one very upset and scared two-year-old.

I am not saying that all dog owners are irresponsible, but it seems to me that more and more people are using Hotham Park to allow their dogs to do as they please, irrespective of other people, especially children.

Personally, I now feel that children are not safe to run free in the park as they should be.

How long will it be before the council put people, and especially children, before dogs?

Who is the park for?

The council really should go back to allowing dogs in the park on leads only and allow children to enjoy the fun and safety of being in the park.
