Why is space the final frontier at Field Place?

IN response to your article in the Herald last week about the childminders' group losing their storage space at Field Place, we have great sympathy with them.

Our group, at the opposite end of the age spectrum, has also been told to vacate our small cupboard by April 1.

I do not think that this has anything to do with April Fools Day!

This whole episode has a peculiar feel to me.

How can these various storage areas have such an impact on the expansion of facilities at Field Place?

They can't knock the whole thing down and redevelop it into some state of the art conference and wedding venue as all the buildings are surely listed.

So the possibilities must be limited anyway.

The council would have to spend quite a lot of money, at a time when there cannot be much available, to bring any of the buildings to a condition that would attract any significant new business.

The way that this whole saga has been dealt with is a disgrace.

As far as I know not a single group has been consulted and the amount of time that any of us have to find alternatives is very short bearing mind that the council letter went out just before Christmas.

The council do not seem to understand that charities like the one in the article and the one for which I work play a vital role in the community and without them the council would find their work much more difficult.

I would be happy to hear from any of the groups affected to see if we cannot make the council change their minds.

Probably unlikely, but worth a try!
