Opportunity to try sailing for free

Rye Harbour Sailing Club is offering people the chance to get out on the water and try sailing for free over three days.

The club is taking part in the national Royal Yachting Association’s Push the Boat Out initiative from Friday May 20 -Sunday 22.

On Friday May 20 you are invited to have a go at Cruiser Sailing and on Sunday 22 you can experience the thrill of Cruiser Racing. The Club is also offering people the chance to try out dinghy sailing from 10am on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22.

There will be different activities taking place including taster sails, demonstration of knots and splicing, information about sea safety from the RNLI along with hot refreshments and a BBQ from 13:00. If you are under 18 you will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The taster sails are free but you will need to bring money for refreshments and the BBQ.

Whatever the weather you will need to bring warm clothes. The Club will provide buoyancy aids and life jackets.

Caroline Wylson, Commodore of Rye Harbour Sailing Club said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the RYA Push the Boat Out.

“We are inviting the local community to come down to the club, have a go at sailing, see what the club has to offer and get involved.

“Who knows if you visit you might just get hooked.”
